投資眼健康：消除可避免的失明可帶來4,470億美元的價值
一份今日發布的新報告顯示，每投資 1 元在眼健康，就能帶來 28 元的回報，為全球增加對防止可避免失明的投資提供了關鍵證據。
《視覺的價值》(The Value of Vision Report) 在紐約聯合國大會上發布，將眼健康與營養的重要性並列，並指出它是低收入及中等收入國家中最具成本效益的醫療干預措施之一。
這份報告由護瞳行動、國際防盲協會 和 塞瓦基金會 共同撰寫，並呼籲各國政府在未來五年內投資 71 億美元 於眼健康優先項目，此舉將能為全球經濟帶來 1,990 億美元 的收益。
如果各國能在 2030 年後惠及 10 億名可避免失明的人，完全消除視力障礙將每年釋放 4,470 億美元的經濟價值，並帶來：
- 增加 1,300 萬年教育年數
- 增加 2,200 萬個就業機會
- 預防 120 萬宗交通意外傷害
- 讓 3.04 億名護理者減輕照顧負擔
- 延長壽命 320,000 年
- 避免 1,220 萬宗抑鬱症個案
護瞳行動總監柏羅士表示，《視覺的價值》報告是一個關鍵時刻，將眼健康置於改善數百萬人生活的核心位置。
他補充：「我們知道，恢復視力能讓人們在學校取得成功、賺取收入、參與社區，以及活得更長久、更能獨立生活。」
「這份新報告證明，負擔得起的眼健康干預措施，是預防交通意外造成的死傷、減少抑鬱症個案，以及讓照顧者的家庭成員重返工作崗位的關鍵因素。」
「超過 90% 的視覺障礙是可以預防或可治療的。恢復視力的干預措施簡單且觸手可及，但我們需要更多投資來釋放這些資源。」
「擴大社區眼睛篩查、增加獲得眼鏡的機會、擴大眼健康工作團隊，以及解決成本和交通等障礙，是獲得成功的關鍵。」
「透過現在的投資，政府、捐款者和慈善部門可以幫助我們在消除可避免失明方面取得重大進展。」
