4 benefits of participating in workplace giving

Workplace giving creates a positive relationship between employers and employees while also making a significant societal impact. These programs can include charitable donations, matching gifts, volunteer opportunities, and fundraising events. Keep reading to learn more about how implementing workplace giving programs can benefit an organisation.

Workplace giving, also known as Payroll Giving, enables employees to regularly make (pre-tax) donations through the organisations they work for. Making a charitable donation through an organisation's payroll is designed for overall convenience and empowering employees to make a meaningful difference with the support of their workplace community.

Workplace giving programs allow employees to contribute a small portion of their pre-tax salary to charity and receive the tax benefit immediately rather than waiting until the end of the financial year. It can be more beneficial for employees to donate through their workplace since the value of their donation is often matched by the employer, effectively doubling the initial contribution and the sum the charity receives.

If your company isn’t able to offer a workplace giving program, you can always join as a regular supporter.

1. Improve overall employee happiness

Studies show that participating in workplace giving programs increases an employee's sense of purpose and fulfilment. This can translate to improved job satisfaction, more company loyalty, and higher productivity levels. By supporting your employees' desire to make a positive impact, you can create a more engaged and motivated workforce that is invested in the success of your organisation.

A donation to The Fred Hollows Foundation through workplace giving programs not only helps fund eye health initiatives but is an investment in employee wellbeing.

2. Help retain talent and loyalty

Giving programs can boost employee morale and improve overall loyalty, with 86% of employees saying that such initiatives make them proud to be part of their organisation. Knowing that their employer shares their values and supports their charitable giving can create a sense of community and purpose in the workplace. When employees are proud of their company’s commitment to social responsibility, they are more likely to stay with the company long-term.

Participating in workplace giving activities such as community fundraising creates an environment that employees are excited to be a part of and raises awareness for social issues.

3. Improve brand image

Corporate social responsibility initiatives such as partnering with The Fred Hollows Foundation can improve a company’s brand image and reputation by demonstrating its commitment to creating a positive social impact.

Partnering with an organisation with a strong international reputation can help build customer loyalty and strong stakeholder engagement. Implementing workplace giving programs is an easy way to connect your organisation with the positive brand and charitable work that The Fred Hollows Foundation does within Australia and internationally.

4. Demonstrating Corporate Social Responsibility

Research has shown that companies with strong corporate social responsibility programs are more attractive to employees and partners and often perform better financially in the long run. This is because corporate social responsibility programs demonstrate a company’s commitment to making a social impact, which is important to consumers and stakeholders.

Providing opportunities for employees to give back to their communities shows an employer’s commitment to achieving a greater good. Partnering with a charity through intermediary organisations such as Good2Give and Benevity streamlines this process, making it mutually beneficial for employees, employers, and the charity.
