Blindness does not wait. We must act now

Transform twice as many lives with a matched gift

An eye health champion and an Australian legend – Fred was motivated by his mission to end avoidable blindness.

Fred said it was “obscene to let people go blind when they don’t have to.” He believed that everyone, no matter whether they were rich or poor, had the right to affordable eye care.

Sadly, Fred was taken from us too soon. But the work he started all those years ago showed us that one person really can make a difference.

Australians like yourself are continuing Fred's work very much in the way it started: by just getting on with it. Like Fred, people like yourself are creating a better future for vulnerable people – one person at a time.

9 out of 10 people who are blind or vision impaired don’t need to be, and we need people like you, now more than ever, to carry on Fred’s vision of a world where no one is needlessly blind.

We’re asking people like you to donate to The Fred Hollows Foundation today so that we can keep our promise to Fred and end avoidable blindness around the world. Will you help us fight the injustice of avoidable blindness and help finish the job Fred started?

Your donation today could be the difference between a lifetime of blindness and a lifetime of opportunity.

See your impact transform lives

Fred once said: "To help someone to see is a tremendous feeling".

By restoring someone's sight, you are giving them the opportunity to see their loved ones, get an education, care for their families, and earn an income to support themselves and their families.

Fred was right; it is a tremendous feeling.

It is truly remarkable to see the impact restoring one's sight has on someone's life. For each person whose sight is restored, entire families and communities are transformed.

Please make a donation today to see the power of your kindness.

Frequently asked questions

Matched giving is a time-bound campaign, in which donations are matched dollar-for-dollar to a matched giving fund. A matched giving fund can be one donor or a group of donors whose donations are pooled together, who have offered to match any donations given in a specified time period, to the total value of a specified amount.

Funding has been provided by a generous anonymous donor who has agreed for their donation to The Fred Hollows Foundation to be used to match donations from the community. Every dollar given in one-off donations will be matched up to a total of $50,000 or until 11:59 PM AEST, 31 December 2024, whichever comes first. All donations above $2 are tax deductible and will be directed where the need is greatest.

Only new one-off donations will be matched. Donations will be matched to the value of $50,000 or up until 11:59PM AEST, 31 December 2024, whichever comes first.

Yes, you will receive an email receipt immediately after donating and if you make a monthly gift you will receive a yearly tax receipt in the post every year.

Your donation will be used to restore sight to those who are needlessly blind, and help end avoidable blindness in the countries where we work, which includes eye operations and treatments, training surgeons and eye health workers, and other sustainable eye health.

For every $1 donated, 75% goes directly towards eye health programs, 6% is necessary for admin costs, and 19% goes towards investment in fundraising efforts which allows us to help even more people in future years.

Yes, donations of $2 and over are tax deductible in Australia.
