Thank you for helping close the gap in Indigenous eye health
Your vision is strengthening regional eye health services to ensure that more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples will receive high-quality, culturally-safe eye care.
One of Fred’s legacies is our Indigenous Australia Program. Supported by Visionaries like you, this program focuses on education, screening and treatment to provide culturally appropriate eye care to Indigenous communities and reducing the alarming disparity in eye health.
94% of blindness and vision loss experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults is preventable or treatable. Your Visionary support is helping realise the future Fred believed in – a future where no one is needlessly blind or vision impaired.
Fred said “You have got to get people involved, you have got to mobilise them, you have got to make the health system part of them”.
He had always insisted that in order to close the gap, Aboriginal health needed to be put in Aboriginal hands. Continuing his vision is Dr Kris Rallah-Baker is Australia’s first and only Aboriginal ophthalmologist. During his training, Dr Kris worked with The Fred Hollows Foundation’s Indigenous Australia program in Darwin, supported by Visionaries like you.
With the support of Visionaries like yourself, we're going to train more eye health workers in remote and regional Australia.
