Ending Avoidable Blindness
Every time we restore someone’s sight, it also brings back their independence, ability to work, or get an education. Ending avoidable blindness through medication, surgery, education, prevention and training is a part of helping people out of poverty, which we see proof of everyday.
Research and Technology
With our growing knowledge and understanding of eye diseases through research and technology, we can create solutions that are more effective at restoring sight to even more people – and end avoidable blindness, faster.
Gender Equity
Women and girls are more likely to develop vision impairment and less likely to get treatment. We believe that all those who need eye care can and should receive it and this means equitable access to care for women and girls.
Advocacy
Change through social activism was something close to Fred's heart. Our advocacy work is all about working with governments, our partners and local communities in achieving long term change.
Training
Fred believed that training and empowering local people was the key to sustainable change. The Foundation trains doctors, nurses and health care workers so they can recognise, diagnose, refer and treat eye problems in their communities.
Our Impact
The Fred Hollows Foundation has been at the forefront of a global movement for eye health for over 30 years, championing the belief that everyone has the right to sight. Working hand-in-hand with governments, global organisations, and local communities, we tackle the barriers to effective eye care and build stronger eye health systems. Our work has achieved remarkable impact in reducing blindness and vision loss, empowering individuals, and transforming communities worldwide.
