The Fred Hollows Humanity Award 2022
Recognised 38 Upper Primary Students
The Fred Hollows Humanity Award – which is celebrating its fifth year – honoured 38 students for making a positive difference in their community. This year’s recipients included eight students who set up a “Ping-pong Table Farm” to help people struggling with the rising cost of living while others were recognised for helping the homeless and refugees and for protecting the local environment.
The Fred Hollows Foundation Hong Kong Board Director Lauren Chung said this year’s entries were encouraging in a challenging year impacted by COVID-19. “Despite so many changes and challenges over the past few years, we are proud to see so many students committed to bringing positive impacts to the community.
“Founder of The Foundation, Professor Fred Hollows, dedicated his life to helping and empowering others to help themselves and restoring sight to some of the world’s poorest people. He would be very proud of the contribution these students are making.”
Local celebrity and father of two, Kay Ho, attended the event to show his support.
“I often share with my kids the importance of helping others,” he said. Mr Ho also supports The Fred Hollows Foundation’s sight-restoring work, especially for children with avoidable blindness.
“Being able to see again will change their lives and give them a bright future,” he said.
Since 2012, The Fred Hollows Humanity Award has recognised more than 3,000 primary school students in Australia and Hong Kong. A record 50 schools and more than 360 students enrolled in this year’s Award.
