THE FRED HOLLOWS HUMANITY AWARD 2023
RECOGNISES 39 UPPER PRIMARY STUDENTS

The Fred Hollows Humanity Award – which is celebrating its sixth year – honoured 39 students for making a positive difference in their community. This year’s recipients were recognised for their good deeds which included refurbishing second-hand computers to donate to schools and families in need in Hong Kong or developing countries, promoting pet adoption and responsible pet ownership, creating self-drawn posters to appeal for donations to those affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and advocating for environmental protection.

"Amidst the challenges Hong Kong has faced over the last few years, this year's entries for The Humanity Award have been truly inspiring," says Laura Lee, Chief Representative of The Fred Hollows Foundation Hong Kong & ASEAN.

"As we celebrate the sixth year of this incredible initiative, I am filled with pride to see that almost 400 applications were received, with so many students dedicating themselves to making positive impacts on their community. Founder of The Foundation, Professor Fred Hollows spent his life helping and empowering others to restore sight to the world's needlessly blind. I have no doubt that he would be incredibly proud of the contributions that these students are making and that his spirit still lives on. Moving forward, as we emerge into a post-pandemic world, let us continue to embrace the spirit of kindness and mutual support, working together to create a brighter future for all."

Since 2012, The Fred Hollows Humanity Award has recognised more than 3,000 primary school students in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. This year, a record 67 schools and more than 380 students enrolled in the Awards.
