Face-to-Face Fundraising

Fred Hollows believed everyone deserves access to quality eye care. At The Fred Hollows Foundation, we carry on his vision to end avoidable blindness and restore sight to millions in need.

Our face-to-face fundraisers help make this possible by sharing Fred’s story and inspiring support for our sight-saving work in communities across Australia.

Why we fundraise in the community

Face-to-face fundraising is one of the most effective ways to connect with Australians who care about making a difference. It helps raise awareness of the impact of avoidable blindness and shows how every donation restores sight and transforms lives.

9 out of 10 people living with blindness don’t need to be. A simple surgery, a pair of glasses, or access to basic eye care could change everything.

Our passionate fundraisers bring Fred’s vision to life by inspiring support for programs that deliver treatments, train local eye health professionals, and strengthen health systems in over 25 countries.

How to recognise our fundraisers

Our face-to-face fundraisers are part of The Fred Hollows Foundation family. You’ll find them at shopping centres, train stations, and other public areas, easily recognisable in their uniforms featuring The Fred Hollows Foundation logo. We also have dedicated residential teams who may visit your neighbourhood and knock on your door.

Every fundraiser is trained to represent The Foundation with integrity and professionalism. They also carry identification and the necessary permits to conduct fundraising activities in your area. All our fundraisers are held to the Fundraising Institute of Australia’s Code of Conduct and Public Fundraising Regulatory Association conduct standards.

If you meet one of our fundraisers, we encourage you to ask questions about our programs and how your support can help restore sight.

Thanks to supporters like you, we’ve been able to transform millions of lives. Together, we can keep Fred’s dream alive and make sure no one is left behind in the fight against avoidable blindness.

The Foundation works with a small number of face-to-face suppliers who are specialists in providing this form of fundraising. Partnering with external agencies allows us to reach more people and raise vital funds efficiently, ensuring more of your donations go directly to restoring sight and fighting avoidable blindness.

Our contracts require that suppliers must be compliant with and abide by all workplace laws. We also require that face-to-face fundraising suppliers must be a member of the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association, the self-regulatory body for face-to-face fundraising in Australia.

These fundraisers are passionate about our mission and undergo extensive training to ensure they represent Fred’s vision and values with integrity.

Our fundraisers are carefully selected and undergo comprehensive training to ensure they can provide accurate information about our work. This includes understanding Fred’s vision, the impact of avoidable blindness, and how donations help fund life-changing programs. They also receive regular updates on our latest initiatives, so they are always equipped to answer your questions confidently and competently.

Our face-to-face fundraisers are not volunteers; they are paid professionals whose role is to engage with the community and inspire support for our cause. Our fundraisers are deeply passionate about our work and are trained to build meaningful, long-term relationships with our supporters.

If you have any questions or concerns about a face-to-face fundraiser you’ve encountered, please contact us on 1800 352 352 or send us an email to visionary@hollows.org. Our face-to-face fundraisers are focused on inspiring people to join us as Visionaries—monthly donors who help sustain Fred’s legacy of fighting avoidable blindness. This approach ensures we have reliable, ongoing support to fund long-term programs and provide sight-restoring care where it’s needed most. The fundraisers are required to enter payment details into a secure portal for security and privacy reasons, which only The Foundation will have access to process monthly donations. Cash is not accepted for accountability reasons and for the security of our fundraisers.

If you’d like to make a one-time donation, you can do so securely via our website or by contacting us directly at 1800 352 352.

The Fred Hollows Foundation is committed to transparency and accountability. Your donation will go directly to our sight-restoring programs, including cataract surgeries, training eye health professionals, and providing sustainable eye care in communities around the world. We publish annual reports that outline how donations are spent, so you can see the real difference your support makes.

We understand that circumstances can change, and we are always here to help. If you need to modify or cancel your monthly donation, you can easily do so by contacting us at 1800 352 352 or via email visionary@hollows.org. We’ll assist you with the process quickly and professionally.

Yes. Every dollar counts and contributes to Fred’s mission of eliminating avoidable blindness. In fact, in some countries, just $25 can help restore sight to someone.
