2022-Umanzi-DESKTOP-1000x500.jpg

The Fred Hollows Foundation is proud to carry on Fred’s work of restoring sight across the 25 countries where we work. This would not be possible without the contributions of our supporters. If you’re looking to help people around the world, there are so many ways to give back and make quality eye health care easily available to everyone.

In a hurry?

Click on the link below to go directly to what you’re most interested in:

  1. Get active with our fundraisers
  2. Host your own event
  3. Get your workplace involved
  4. Support the causes close to Fred’s heart
  5. Become a Visionary
  6. Spread the word with your circle
  7. Consider leaving a gift in your Will

1. Get active with our fundraisers

Every year so many of us make the new year's resolution to get more active, so why not take part in our fitness fundraiser Fred’s Big Run?

Fred's Big Run is a virtual challenge that lasts the whole month of August. We challenge participants to walk, jog, or run a distance of 50km or more during the month of August to raise funds for people who live with avoidable blindness.

Fred’s Big Run is a fitness and fundraising challenge that anyone can partake in and is a fun way to support the sight-restoring work of The Fred Hollows Foundation.

You can register your interest here.

2. Host your own event

Fundraising events are a great opportunity to not only support our work but come together with your loved ones for an amazing cause.

Get your friends and family involved with fundraising events such as a trivia night, movie night, or even local community events with your sports club. The best part of hosting your own event is that the opportunities are endless.

Your fundraising efforts will help educate community eye health workers, doctors and nurses in some of the world's poorest regions. It will not only make high-quality eye care available to marginalised people but also create goodwill within your circle of loved ones.

3. Get your workplace involved

Getting your workplace involved with social issues is a good way to build office comradery and give your workplace a feeling of greater purpose.

Workplace Giving is a quick and easy method to consistently donate money to the charity of your choice, straight from your pre-tax payslip. Your employer can offer a scheme where they promise to match your gift dollar for dollar at work. Ask your employer to get in touch with Workplace Donating Australia to start up a giving program if one doesn't already exist.

If you want your workplace to support our sight-restoring work at The Fred Hollows Foundation, you can contact us directly

Workplace teams can also participate in events like Fred’s Big Run.

4. Support the causes close to Fred's heart

Fred was a fierce activist who wanted to make social change. We honour Fred’s legacy through our on-going advocacy work.

The Foundation works in a variety of ways to create change, such as working with governments to commit budget to eye health, shifting public attitudes through education, and working to amend and create policies to help end avoidable blindness.

5. Become a Visionary

Our Visionaries help keep Fred’s vision alive by donating regularly to help fund sight restoring surgeries and education programs, as well as equipment and facility upgrades when needed.

Monthly donations from our Visionaries allow us to plan for long-term projects, meaning we can invest in innovation and technology that will continue to make eye care services more affordable and available to people living in even the most remote parts of the world.

As a Visionary you’ll be able to see the very real impact that your regular donations are having on real people, every single day.

Become a Visionary here.

7. Consider leaving a gift in your Will

Gifts in Wills are used to support our sight-saving work, including eye operations and treatments, eye health screening and awareness, and training eye surgeons, nurses, community health workers and teachers.

You can get more information about how to leave a gift in your Will here.
