Alexcis's Story
It’s hard for any parent to see their children suffer.
For father Randy, the pain of watching his son go blind was almost too much to bear. He knew that by growing up in a poor family, life for his son would already be tough. Growing up blind as well would be next to impossible.
For two years, Alexcis had suffered from cataract in both eyes, taking the joy out of this 13-year-old boy’s life.
He hadn’t been able to participate properly at school, play with his friends or venture too far from his home.
To make matters worse, he was hit by a motorbike that he didn’t see coming and became even more terrified of leaving the house.
Randy was devastated because he didn’t know what was happening to his son
So when he heard about the eye care program led by The Fred Hollows Foundation in Surigao del Norte, a three hour boat ride from his island, he did everything he could to get Alexcis there for screening.
Workers trained by The Fred Hollows Foundation were able to screen and remove the cataract in both of Alexcis’ eyes. Overwhelmed, his father couldn’t believe that his son would be able to see again.
Alexcis has his childhood back.
Alexcis has his childhood back. He is overjoyed at being able to see the clear blue sky, the birds in flight and the endless green fields once again.
“I am excited to go back to school,” said Alexcis, “I can see everything now!”
Without the determination of his father, and the support of people like you, Alexcis would still be blind.
